An epiphyte in stadium light
Hangs over me from a wire as I wait for my ride
Epiphyte in stadium light
I can't tell you why I miss the places where I couldn't hide
And all these waterways
They will not take me back north
And all these turns of phrase
They will not make things as they were before

Double Helix

Well I woke up at 5 am
And I couldn't go back to sleep
I won't own up to nearly half the things
I nearly thought this week
And now it's over the bend
I can see through the bridge
In a double helix again
I dreamed of you and our ephemera
Those summer afternoons
I couldn't help but wander through the vines
I woke up all too soon
Do grapes go straight to my heart
Or my DNA?

Apples Bleach Teeth

I hadn't heard a song so loud
Until I moved down to this town
I couldn't hear myself breathing
But I could feel my heart was beating
So let's keep the fire strong
Throw the guitar in last
We'll agree on a final song
And look away from the past
And I've been trying mostly just to follow orders
But I left the ghost to push the art form forward
And I miss you more than you'll ever know
You'll hear my guitar long after the embers glow
I'm on 441
Find myself running across
Till I'm in the shadows
Listening to the Spanish moss
And all the sunlight of summer trickled back in November
And illuminated faces I could strain to remember
And the bridge we wanted well it's finally built
And I'm running across it just to burn off a little guilt
I'll head back north
And leave an epiphyte wreath
Gather my thoughts in a vacuum
An apple bleaching my teeth

Moss Rose

You can tell me
Of course I want to know where you went
After you left my apartment
It was March then
Nothing started
I didn't feel what you sensed
The moss rose budded but never bloomed
No it just hung around the room
Kind of like me and you
Of course I want to know if I could have spoken more sensitively
And more kindly
More considerately of your feelings
I don't feel this
